everything is a-okay

earlier this week i posted that i was in need of some positive thoughts for my little bean. i thought i'd take some time to explain what's going on. so. bob was born with a sacral dimple . a sacral dimple could indicate spina bifida, which is scary stuff. when i was at his two month doctor appointment, his pediatrician thought it would be a good idea, if we went to have an ultra sound of his spinal cord. of course after waiting two weeks to get an appointment, then having the ultra sound done we still had to wait a few days after that for the doctor to call us with the results. when he did, he said that the spinal cord was lower than it should be and that it would be best if we go speak with a neurosurgeon to discuss what to do. from there the neurosurgeon thought that it would be a good idea, that when bob is 6 months, that he go and have an MRI done. for that, they would need to put bob to sleep. with there being so many risks associated with putting a young baby to sleep for 3 hours, i really thought it would be best to go have a second opinion before doing something so dramatic.

luckily we found a wonderful neurosurgeon over at childrens hospital who took a look at bob. he reviewed our ultrasound images, as well as took a look at the dimple and told us no further imaging was needed! WOOT!!!!! he felt the end of the spinal cord, and looked at the placement of the dimple and because the dimple if below the spinal cord we are in the clear. if the dimple was above the spinal cord then we'd have to worry. i feel such relief that this is all over. he said we have a perfectly healthy baby. i couldn't be more happier.
