first easter

this year for easter we decided that bob was probably too young to go easter egg hunting, and we didn't want to risk him being terrified of the easter bunny so we decided to skip those things this year. instead we made our way down to san diego on sunday to spend some time with my family. saturday evening my mom and stepdad cooked us supper and we drank wine while watching old comedy movies. well old-ish. i think we watched Black Sheep and i can't remember what else. sunday morning we had bacon, coffee, and bagels then had to pack up our bags to head over to my pops house. such a nice time hanging with my mom.
my mom, stepdad, adam, bob, and myself

when we got to my dads we got to relax a bit before heading over to my grandmothers for supper. we fed bob, chatted with my dad, and then put bob down for a mini nap. it's always nice to watch up with my dad. after that we headed to my grandmas house where my dads side of the family got to enjoy bob. they all go crazy for him fighting over who gets to hold him. i love it. my dad says that " they understand each other." so sweet. i want to try and make it a tradition of taking family pictures every time we are down there for a holiday.

hope everyone had a lovely easter! we sure did!

everything is a-okay

earlier this week i posted that i was in need of some positive thoughts for my little bean. i thought i'd take some time to explain what's going on. so. bob was born with a sacral dimple . a sacral dimple could indicate spina bifida, which is scary stuff. when i was at his two month doctor appointment, his pediatrician thought it would be a good idea, if we went to have an ultra sound of his spinal cord. of course after waiting two weeks to get an appointment, then having the ultra sound done we still had to wait a few days after that for the doctor to call us with the results. when he did, he said that the spinal cord was lower than it should be and that it would be best if we go speak with a neurosurgeon to discuss what to do. from there the neurosurgeon thought that it would be a good idea, that when bob is 6 months, that he go and have an MRI done. for that, they would need to put bob to sleep. with there being so many risks associated with putting a young baby to sleep for 3 hours, i really thought it would be best to go have a second opinion before doing something so dramatic.

luckily we found a wonderful neurosurgeon over at childrens hospital who took a look at bob. he reviewed our ultrasound images, as well as took a look at the dimple and told us no further imaging was needed! WOOT!!!!! he felt the end of the spinal cord, and looked at the placement of the dimple and because the dimple if below the spinal cord we are in the clear. if the dimple was above the spinal cord then we'd have to worry. i feel such relief that this is all over. he said we have a perfectly healthy baby. i couldn't be more happier.

3 months of bob!

today bob is 3 months!!!! holy guacamole, where did the time go?
bob has grown SO much. i'm not sure how much exactly, he has his 3 month doctor appointment tomorrow. the hubs and i measured him ourselves and he looks to be around 23.5 inches, and weighs about 12 pounds. love my little chunker.

  • he sleeps through the night now. usually from 10pm-7am. it's really nice.
  • when sleeping he loves to have his face pushed up against mine. almost like he wants to feel me breathing. anyone else's babes do this?
  • he still sleeps a lot through the day. but that's ok. that gives me time to get things done.
  • he started laughing! it's the BEST thing ever. he has only laughed for me twice, but he thinks his dad is hilarious. laughs at him all the time. especially when singing silly songs.
  • he is always smiling. except when i try and take pictures of him. i guess he's camera shy?
  • he's eating tons now. anywhere between 4-6 oz a feeding. probably because he's growing like a weed.
  • he still also hates tummy time.

since last saturday bob has been super fussy. lots of crying, and whining, and wanting to be snuggled. also super fussy with the pacifier and the bottle. i'm guessing it's a growth spurt. i felt around in his mouth and i couldn't feel any bumps under his gums, so i don't think that's what it is. i'm hoping he starts acting less fussy soon. i miss my cuddly happy baby.

on a sad note of it all, we are quitting breastfeeding. we've been struggling with bf from the start. our routine was nursing, then a bottle, then i would pump for an hour. by the time it was all done, it was time to feed him and start the whole process over again. being hooked up to the pump for 8+ hours a day isn't fair to bob or myself so i decided it was best to start to wean, so i could spend more time with him. i'm still working on weaning which is pretty hard. emotionally and physically. i still am pumping but only 2-3 times a day as apposed to 6+. i get to spend much more time with him now which is great. i have to keep reminding myself that i made it to 3 months of breastfeeding. which is GREAT! i should be proud of myself. he will continue getting the stuff i am pumping until my supply is dried out, then i will give him my freezer stash. he will probably have breast milk until 3.5 months which will take us to the end of flu season. sad it's over, but go me for making it this far!

the nursery

i've been wanting to do a nursery post for quite a long time now. only problem was it took me forever to "finish" it. the reason why i put the word finish in quotes, is because it's still not complete yet but it's finally good enough to post some pictures. most of the stuff we got is from ikea. love that place. inexpensive furniture which is perfect for a kids room, since things that kids use generally don't last a long time. i also put up our table numbers from our wedding. i get teary every time i look at them.

well here it is.....
